The Loon & The Flying Fish

by Ari Neufeld & Dom Fricot

/

about

This story was presented by Dominque Fricot in metaphor to a relationship issue he was struggling with: the ability to meet the one he was trying to love on the same level. The metaphor deepened when we started to discuss expectation challenges. One's perspective feels like a deep ocean sometimes, when the other's seems like a shallow puddle. The metaphor was really born when I declared in the middle of it: "It's like you're a loon and she's a flying fish, and the two of you are only capable of fully identifying with the other for a breath!"

- Ari

lyrics

I was born
Swimming free
But I have these crazy wings
Lord, I have these crazy wings

I will never know
How to fly
But I'll learn to glide
Lord, I'll learn to glide

We're charging at the surface
Both still a little nervous:
I wanna be where you are
And where I wanna go
So sad that I can't show you
You're as distant as the stars
I wanna be where you are

I was born
In the reeds
Given to fly above the trees
I remember when
You pulled me in
How you glided in the wind
I couldn't breathe underneath
But this song
Poured out of me
